Kolkata Fashion Fiesta!

Kolkata is growing up! It’s not me but the fashion and entertainment industry is saying. In India, whenever we say “fashion”, the name of Mumbai and Delhi automatically takes up the front seat. Yet, Kolkata has some very good designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Agnimitra Paul, Kiran Uttam Ghosh and such many others, who have gained national as well as international fames for their creative work and charm which they bring in their dresses.

Yet, Kolkata still lags behind in terms of fashion and style. Nevertheless, the Kolkata Lakme Fashion Week has started since this year and in the next year also, we are going to see some interesting collections of the upcoming and already famed fashion designers.

Next year in the month of February, there will be two fashion weeks – the Kolkata Fashion Lifestyle Week. It will begin from February 17th and will conclude on the 21st. The Kolkata Fashion Week will start from 23rd and end on 27th of February.

Expectations are sky high and work in terms of organising the events have already started. It is believed that just like this year, many of the famous designers will be displaying their collections and audience will get to see new designs and patterns of sarees, kurtas, salwar, and western costumes.

Yudhajit Dutta, who had played an important role at the Kolkata Fashion Week, is using his best men to showcase the best of the city’s fashion sense and aura.

At the 2009 KLFW, we got to see many Bollywood figures, as show stoppers. This was criticised by the city’s media and journalists, who felt the organizers are trying to create an extra hype by calling celebs from as far as Mumbai. Even, to me it seemed a bit odd to hire these people, as in Kolkata, we have so many professional models and celebs to bring the stage on fire by walking ramps quite comfortably and glamorously.

The organisers of the KFW have promised that they are not going to hire any outsiders, but make the shows a hit by introducing local people and our city’s own flavours and charm.
