Do we love our pets? If yes, then how come we become so brutal to animals on the streets? Often I see people throwing stones at stray dogs or boys bullying animals with fire crackers tied to their tails.
Just like human beings, dogs and cats that we often see on roads, have emotions and feelings. They too get hurt if they are beaten or chased away. When I was a child, I saw my neighbour throwing hot water on the cat that used to come to their house everyday in hunt for food.
While writing this post, I too should confess one thing – even I, once had thrown cold water at the pussy cat that has stolen fish from our kitchen. I was trying to find some ways to teach the cat a lesson and one day I got the opportunity. The cat was relaxing at the terrace and I quietly went up to her with a mug full of water and threw the water at her. It seemed she was utterly disgusted with my behaviour and without running away from me, (she sees me almost everyday) the cat elegantly walked away to our neighbours’ terrace to complete her daily afternoon nap.
I am sorry now for what I did that day and could now feel the pain and humiliation of these creatures at the hands of humans. My aunty is a great fan of animals and she has even become a member of PETA (an animal lover's organisation: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Everyday, she keeps a watch on the road to get hold of any distressed or sick animal and in case she finds one, aunty immediately calls the PETA people for rescuing the helpless animal.
A few years back, my aunt found a cow struggling to cross the road in front of her house in Salt Lake. Finding no one else to help the cow, she herself ran off the road to save the cow from getting hurt or bashed by any car or bus.
It feels really nice to see such kind people living next to us. Just in front of our house, there’s a small municipality park, where a stray dog has given birth to 4 little puppies. Everyday, I see them playing in the park and wagging their tails to some passer by. Our locality is very fond of the dog and her cute little ones. Everyday, some one or the other comes to feed the pups, either with biscuits or a plate full of milk. The babies too have grown healthy and enjoy themselves loitering aimlessly in the park or becoming naughty with their mother.
I seriously think, even if people fail to do any good to these poor animals, at least they should not beat them unnecessarily. It really hurts to see the animals roaming on the streets with bruises all over their body. The animals need some love and care from us and we can surely give them that, if we really try to.
The blog speaks about my feelings and thoughts of everyday life. It ranges from anything to everything that catches my interest and makes me pen it down.
