Good News for all Tintin Lovers

Hey guys, it’s great to come across the news that finally the Tintin movie is finished. However, we still have to wait for 2 more years to see it in our favourite cinema hall. The producer of the film, Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings fame) told in a recent interview that it will take 2 years for the computer animation to get completed.

I am a die-hard fan of Tintin and have finished reading all the books on this brave Belgian comic character. He is my all-time popular comic hero. Hat off to Herge for creating such a lovely series of comic strips for us comic lovers.

Apart from Tintin, there are so many other characters to fall in love with - Professor Calculus, Captain Haddock, the funny detective duo Thomson and Thompson and last but not the least Snowy, Tintin’s beloved pet dog.

The series first appeared in French in Le Petit Vingtième, a children’s supplement to the Belgian newspaper Le Vingtieme Siecle on 10th January 1929. And till date, even after 80 odd years, Herge’s Tintin series continues to be a favourite among readers and critics alike.

It’s been successfully published in over 50 languages and more than 200 million copies of the books have been sold till date. Although earlier, films have been made based on the following Tintin stories such as:

1. The Crab with the Golden Claws (1947) - animated
2. Tintin and the Golden Fleece (1961) - live action
3. Tintin and the Blue Oranges (1964) - live action
4. Tintin and the Temple of the Sun (1969) - animated
5. Tintin et la SGM (1970), animated promotional short film
6. Tintin and the Lake of Sharks (1972)

Yet, I am waiting eagerly for the release of “The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn” in 2011, since it’s made by one of the leading Hollywood directors, Steven Spielberg and is said to contain lots of 3D animation and special effects to offer a treat to the eyes.
