Kolkata Roads in Pitiful State

A BIG hi to all my blogger friends :)

I finally got the time to resume writing. As you can see its well a long time (the last post made on Dec 1, 2010).

Here's a fresh post to read and share your valuable comments. Thanks in advance.

It is only a few days ago as I was passing along the E.M. Bypass sitting on a bus, I suddenly felt a terrible jerk and was almost about to topple on the ground when my fellow passenger got hold of me and helped me sit straight. I asked the conductor what happened. (By that time our bus has stopped). He said, “Come and look yourself”. To my surprise, found one of the front tyres of the bus in a giant hole.

This is the condition of not only E.M. Bypass but almost all other roads and lanes in Kolkata. Every other day, the Kolkatans start their day reading in newspapers about one or more accidents because of bad roads. The street near my house has small and big holes enough to cause an accident any day. Thanks to the drivers of various vehicles and motorbikes no major mishap has happened till date.

Watching the morning or evening news on TV and catching the live debates on various news channels bring in front of us the bare truth of Kolkata roads. Nothing has been done to improve the condition of the uneven roads in the past or at present. Moreover, in the name of development, the government workers are only worsening the situation by digging earth and then not properly filling up the area.

It is becoming increasingly difficult for the buses, cars, auto rickshaws to move in line and also pedestrians are travelling every day with utmost insecurity whether they would be able to return home safe!
